What is expected of the DCYB?
After campaigning and being elected at the Annual Diocesan Catholic Youth
Conference the new DCYB is installed at the closing mass. In June
there is a three-day retreat where the new board improves their leadership,
communication and teamwork skills. There is plenty of time for fun
and business. At this retreat the board discerns their theme for
the upcoming year.
During the summer the board assists with running the Diocesan Youth Leadership
Camps. The Board presents their theme, leads small group discussions
and provides support to both the regional boards and parish groups.
During the fall the DCYB hosts the Diocesan Rally. During this event
the Board gets to connect with youth from all the regions and help
kick off an exciting year.
The biggest task for the DCYB is the planning of the Annual Diocesan
Youth Conference. The DCYB works together with an adult Diocesan
Planning Committee and the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministries
to put together a fabulous conference. The DCYB works on all aspects
of conference, from the menus, to decorations, speakers and the
skits.
There are monthly meetings that the DCYB members are expected to
attend and they are generally followed with an activity to encourage
strong friendship with fellow board members.
In addition to the above activities the DCYB is also expected to
reflect the following:
- Desire to serve God with their whole life
- Committed to spiritual growth
- Remain actively involved with their parish and region
- Reflect the light of Christ through positive lifestyle choices
- Conduct one self in a professional/respectful manner as a representative
of the diocese
