Two join Catholic Charities

Community Counseling Services and the St. Anthony Family Shelter get more assistance

DeniseStuteyChrisLauDenise Stutey, a licensed master of social work, has joined the staff at Community Counseling Services to provide counseling to individuals and families. Stutey also provides counseling to families at St. Anthony Family Shelter and serves as the school counselor for St. Patrick Catholic School.

Community Counseling Services also provides counseling support to St. Joseph, St. Margaret Mary, All Saints, and Christ the King Catholic Schools.

Stutey, member of St. Jude Parish, received her bachelor of arts in social work and master of social work from Wichita State University. She has seven years experience working in mental health.

Christopher Lau, a licensed marriage and family therapist, at the St. Anthony Family Shelter, has been promoted from therapist/counselor to staff supervisor.

Initially working as an intern, Lau was later hired at Community Counseling Services and St. Anthony Family Shelter to provide therapy to clients at both locations. Lau received his bachelor of arts in psychology/sociology from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Mo., and his master of family therapy from Friends University.

St. Anthony Family Shelter offers temporary shelter to married couples with or without children and to single parents with children. The environment is supportive of the family structure, offering an on-sight counselor, family advocates who work with the families to set goals and offer direction on resources, and basic needs, like food, toiletries and daily needs.
