**God has a plan for youGod will empower us with his grace15th Sunday in Ordinary TimeAmos 7:12-15; Ephesians 1:3-14; and Mark 6:7-13 By Msgr. William Carr
From all eternity, God had a plan for you! From all eternity, he wanted you to be modeled after Jesus Christ who was to come. Read the second reading carefully. From all eternity, he called you to be his adopted son or daughter, and he wants you always to live like that -- to live like Christ! (Jews believed that the Torah was the model of all creation. They thought that the Torah was the eternal, ultimate self-revelation of God. The Torah was delivered to Moses in time, but it was eternal. It was the model and purpose of all creation. The New Testament teaches us that Jesus, not the Torah, is the model and purpose of creation; all things were made to fit his image!) God chose us in Christ before the world ever began! If we modeled after Christ, we must stand up for what is right and true, even when it is not popular. The first reading tells of the prophet Amos. Amos was a poor, simple, dirt farmer; he didn’t want to be a prophet. But because God called him, he had to be a prophet! He had to speak the truth! The Gospel tells us that Jesus chose a rather motley group to be his apostles. By and of themselves, they are not very much! But the Lord empowers them with his grace. The Lord has called us. He also will empower us by his grace. Let us renew our dedication to live according to our model, Jesus Christ. (7/14/06) **Catholic Diocese of Wichita home page |
